Why are you shocked!? It was expected
Dr. Yousef Mohammed
Following yesterday’s decision of the Federal Supreme Court, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) authorities have been shocked and surprised.
Let’s look at the content of yesterday’s decision and how constitutional it was (we will discuss it later), and let’s stop the timing of the decision, which is linked to trying to majorize the Iraqi political system and form a majority coalition We find it strange that the Kurdistan Regional Government authorities were so surprised by the decision.
Eleven months ago, on March 16, 2021, the day we commemorated the martyrs of Halabja in the House of Representatives, we informed the Kurdistan Regional Government in two interviews with Rudaw and NRT that one of the priorities will be the oil issue. See how we ask them to reach a comprehensive, final and balanced agreement with the federal government and end the scandals in the oil sector before the court rules against the oil file. Of course, we have discussed this issue in all meetings with the Kurdistan Regional Government delegation. But they didn’t listen to us.
Yesterday’s decision of the Federal Supreme Court was expected, if not yesterday, it would have been issued within the next month or after the formation of the next Iraqi government, and all other political forces in Iraq, Shiites and Sunnis agree on it. Notice that only the two Kurdish judges disagreed with the decision.
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) authorities wasted a lot of time trying to reach a balanced agreement with the federal government on the oil and gas issue in the interest of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) citizens. This time, as in the past, they reduced all the discussions to a struggle for positions.
That’s the conclusion.
